SENATOR Serge Osmeña III said Interior Secretary Mar Roxas does not connect to the public and has advised the Liberal Party (LP) presidential standard bearer to re-examine his campaign strategy.
Osmena, an LP stalwart, also said Roxas should stop dreaming about having Senator Grace Poe as his running mate in the 2016 election.
Poe has rejected Roxas’ offer to be his vice president during a recent meeting. Poe, who is on top of recent surveys, is being pushed to run for President by her supporters.
LP leaders said Poe as vice presidential bet of the administration party could boost the rating of Roxas who has been faring badly in the surveys.
Painful as it may be Roxas has to move on, said Osmena in an unsolicited advice following Poe’s rejection of Roxas’ offer.
Osmena also said Roxas with his current campaign strategy does not click with the public. He said the “Mr. Palengke’ line, an old campaign pitch during his first senatorial run which has been revived by his handlers, does not sell under the present political weather.
Roxas and his hanlders should look for what appeals to be people, said Osmena.
With Poe out of the radar of the LP’s search for a vice president, Roxas should instead woo Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo, who is also being pushed by administration allies to be his running mate.
But Osmena said LP should prepare Robredo, widow of the late Interior Secretary Jessie Robredo, for the race.
Pushed into politics after her husband’s death in a helicopter crash in Masbate, Robredo is a political neophyte and may not be ready for the race.
The LP should prepare Robredo on various issues, said Osmena.
Without that, it’s like dumping Robredo into a boiling pan, said the Senator from Cebu.
