IN ONLY A MONTH OF ADVERTISING SPREE
An item in The Manila Times column of Rigoberto Tiglao says presidential candidate Mar Roxas spent P257 million on television ads alone from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15 to boost his ratings in the presidential surveys. That is more than P8..5, or almost P9 MILLION A DAY.
For the record, WE ARE NOT SAYING THAT ROXAS DID ANYTHING WRONG. But Tiglao will not write anything as sensitive as that and risk facing a CRIMINAL LIBEL SUIT IMMEDIATELY if he did not have enough proof. So considering previous discoveries on Roxas – the latest of which is the Commission on Audit (COA) report on P42 billion in disaster projects funds which he DID NOT RELEASE in 2013 when he was still DILG secretary — he had better clarify the issue IN DETAIL if he knows what’s good for his credibility.
Roxas must clarify if the P257 million is an accurate figure or not. If it’s accurate, he should show where or from whom did the money come from. He must PROVE THAT THE MONEY IS NOT FROM GOVERNMENT FUNDS. The elections is still SEVEN MONTHS AWAY. No genius is needed to realize that not even Henry Sy, the Ayalas or the Zobels, or even Bill Gates, will spend P8.5 MILLION A DAY on political ads. If the P257 million is wrong, how much then has he spent so far on TV ads, as well as in his other commercials? If Roxas will say his family can afford to do so, then let’s see their income tax returns and that of their businesses. If he will say contributors are financing his commercials, then he should name them for the public to determine if indeed they are rich enough to spend P8.5 million a day on political commercials alone.
Roxas must also declare how much has he spent so far for presidential bid. If the P257 million is for TV commercials alone, how much have his radio commercials and print ads, billboards, transportation and accommodation expenses in his trips nationwide and other related items cost him to date? And most of all, he must account now for the P42 billion disaster projects funds he did not disburse he did not release, the relief monies for ‘Yolanda’ victims which were at his disposal when he was still DILG head, and others. If his supporters will counter what about the other presidential aspirants, much better.
Kung hindi MAIPAPALIWANAG AGAD NI ROXAS anbg mga ito ng DETALYADO, NASA SAMBAYANAN ANG LAHAT NG KATWIRAN PARA PAGDUDAHAN ANG KANIYANG INTEGRIDAD, AT ANG PINANGGAGALINGAN NG KANIYANG GINAGASTOS.
