Says she is ready for vigorous physical campaign

Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago on Thursday declared she is ready even for “vigorous physical campaign” and “even with” the 2016 presidential election.

”If you mean by vigorous physical campaign engaging in battle by means of boxing or wrestling, I’m ready for that too because my father was a martial art,” Santiago replied when the media asked if she was ready for physically rigorous campaign.

Santiago, who is seeking presidency for the third time, said the mere fact that she was accepting speaking engagement, “that is the result of very advanced cancer medication.”

”People are not aware of it and I’m glad that I have been given an opportunity to make people know that the situation has changed completely,” she said.

In July 2014, Santiago announced that she has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and early this year, she said she has beaten her cancer.

”In effect, nobody dies from cancer anymore. Every month there are a dozen of new medications. The only problem with these new medicines is that they are very, very expensive. So as long as my contributors will be able to help me survive, I’ll be able to finish the campaign and even win it,” Santiago said.

Santiago said what is more important in determining the capabilities of a presidential candidate “is not the strength of their machinery or their organization but the strength of their brains when they appear on TV and they answer questions that are not given beforehand.”

“That is the problem with these so-called debates, the questions are given in advance so all the candidates do is really to read prearranged answers,” the feisty lady senator said.

Santiago is eyeing Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos as her running mate. Both ran and won as senators in 2010 under the Nacionalista Party (NP) of former Senator Manny Villar. (PNA)
