Lawyers of Senator Grace Poe will raise her case to the Supreme Court if she suffers a third debacle in the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Poe’s chance of joining the 2016 presidential race has suffered another setback with the Comelec First Division voting 2-1 on Friday, December 11, to cancel her certificate of candidacy (COC).
The ruling covered three petitions filed against Poe which questioned her residency and citizenship qualifications to run for President.
The Philippine Constitution requires a presidential candidate to be a natural-born Filipino citizen and to meet a 10-year residency requirement.
Earlier, the poll body’s Second Division also disqualified Poe for material misrepresentation in her COC.
Poe’s lawyer said they will raise Poe’s case to the Supreme Court if the Comelec en banc rules against her favor.
