Contrary to an earlier report, Liberal Party presidential candidate Mar Roxas is the leading spender for political advertisements among top presidential bets based on a 2015 report by media research firm Nielsen Philippines, according to Joey Salgado, spokesman of Vice President Jejomar Binay of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
An earlier report, quoting Nielsen data, said Binay was the biggest spender.
But in documents provided by Nielsen, Salgado said Roxas shelled out P774.192 million for TV ads from January to December last year.
Correcting an earlier report that Binay spent the biggest on advertising placement on television, Salgado said Binay came in second with P695.555 million.
Binay was followed by Sen. Grace Poe with P694.603 million and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with P129.599 million.
Salgado said the report which came out in The Philippine STAR on December 5 on Roxas’ TV ad expenditures did not include the placements with entries “Mar Roxas for president” and “Mar Roxas school alumni.”
“If you include these entries, Roxas would still emerge as the biggest ad spender even in November,” he said.
