Mar Roxas, the standard bearer of the administration Liberal Party and who described as a “myth” claim by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte that Davao City is one of the most peaceful cities in the country is doubting Duterte’s iron-fist campaign against illegal drugs.
Initially tagged by Duterte as behind black propaganda to stop him from running for president in the 2016 elections, Roxas in his latest blast may have unwittingly revealed he has another dirty trick aimed at the mayor.
Bakit wala bang druga sa Davao? Roxas said in his latest verbal blast at Duterte.
There is a report circulating in the intelligence community about a raid on a ‘planted’ large drug laboratory in Davao City — a black propaganda that revolves around Davao City being an illegal drugs producer despite Duterte’s peace and order campaign particularly against illegal drugs. The camp of Duterte, running under the banner of the opposition PDP/Laban, is establishing the veracity of the report and the persons or groups behind that would possibly carry it out.
Duterte, a front runner in the presidential race is one of the biggest threats to the bid of Roxas, standard bearer of the ruling Liberal Party, who has ranked poorly in the surveys for presidential preference despite the support of President Benigno Aquino.
In early December, Duterte, a vocal critic of the administration of the administraion, engaged Roxas in a ‘word war’ after Roxas said that Davao City’s claim as a peaceful city was a ‘myth.’
Before this, Duterte accused Roxas as behind a journalist who spread the rumor that Duterte is not running for president because the mayor has throat cancer.
Other presidentiables had also accused Roxas and the ruling Liberal Party as behind smear drives out to derail their bids. Vice President Jejomar Binay of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), said the administration orchestrated the Senate Blue Ribbon probe on alleged corruption during his term as Makati City mayor. Independent candidate Senator Grace Poe also said the administration is instigated the disqualification cases filed against her with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Roxas’ latest blast —Bakit wala bang druga sa Davao? — was apparently aimed to demean Duterte’s vow to stop illegal drugs if elected President.
Black propaganda operatives may already be at work to discredit Duterte’s successful anti-illegal drugs campaign in Davao City.
Roxas publicly belittling Duterte’s anti-drug campaign comes amid an unverified report, revealed by former South Cotabato Governor Manny Piñol, that Manila-based anti-drug operatives will stage a raid on an alleged drug laboratory – planted to discredit the mayor — in Davao City.
THE ‘GREAT RAID’
A huge “anti-drug” sting purportedly intended to “bust” a drug laboratory in the heart of Davao City is now being planned by political operators to destroy and derail the Presidential bid of Rody Duterte.
The operation, dubbed “The Great Raid,” will reportedly involve special anti-drugs units of the government who will be fielded to Davao City at any given time and swoop down on a “drug laboratory.”
“This operation is being talked about in whispers here (a camp in Metro Manila),” said an intelligence officer who asked that the information be validated by other sources.
After I received the information over the weekend, I double checked it with another source who also confirmed that he heard talks of “The Great Raid” too.
The informant said that the raid is intended to destroy Duterte’s image as an anti-drug crusader and suggest that the Davao City Mayor is “involved” in the drug trade himself.
“Gusto nila lumabas na ang campaign ni Mayor against drug syndicates ay ginagawa nya para walang kumpetinsya,” the informant told me.
I have relayed this information to people who are very close to Duterte warning them that “The Great Raid” is actually a political operation aimed at destroying the Davao City Mayor.
“We all know that Rody will never be in any way involved in illegal activities but these operators could just “dramatise” everything, set up a “drug laboratory” and “raid” it,” I told Duterte’s campaign manager, Maribojoc, Bohol Mayor Jun Evasco.
Mayor Evasco agreed that should the sting operation succeed in Davao City, the Duterte camp would be placed in a defensive position during the whole campaign period.
The reported anti-drug sting follows closely the controversial statement of Liberal Party (LP) presidential candidate Manuel Roxas III that Davao City’s reputation as one of the Safest Cities in the World is nothing but “a myth.”
Duterte’s reputation as a tough campaigner against crime and drugs which earned him the monicker “The Punisher” has made him a leading presidential candidate.
Duterte is the only Presidential candidate in the 2016 elections who carries a plan of action on how to stop drugs, crime and corruption in the country.
In earlier pronouncements, Duterte promised the Filipino people that he would launch a 24/7 campaign against drugs and criminality.
Duterte said Filipinos will feel the change in the crime and drugs situation in the first six months of his Presidency.
He has also promised that he would resign if cannot fulfill his commitment in three years.
