THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc on Tuesday, December 22, denied the motion for reconsideration filed by Senator Grace Poe regarding her disqualification from the presidential race, said a report in the Inquirer.
The report said GMA 7’s 24 Oras reported that the Comelec backed the earlier decisions of the poll body’s first and second division disqualifying Poe due to her citizenship and residency issues.
However, the report said the Comelec en banc denied the motion of lawyer Estrella Elamparo to exclude Poe from the lists of candidates in the election ballot as Poe is expected to elevate her case before the Supreme Court. NC
Presidential candidate Mar Roxas does not believe in surveys.
Respondents in surveys by Pulse Asia and the Social Weather Stations (SWS) have consistently consigned Roxas, standard bearer of the ruling Liberal party of President Benigno Aquino, to the fourth spot.
In the latest survey of Pulse Asia, Roxas reaffirmed his franchise over the spot chalking an emaciated 17%.
Vice President Jejomar Binay bounced back to lead the presidential pack with 33%, followed by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, 23 % and Senator Grace Poe, 21%.
For Mr. Roxas, the best survey would be the result of the May 2016 elections.
Just like what I always say, the most important survey will take place in May on election day, he says in downplaying the result of the latest Pulse Asia survey.
This is the line that Roxas would dish out every time surveys are released with his name at the bottom.
As low numbers continue to play joke on his presidential bid in the surveys, Roxas said he was confident that his advocacy of the “Daang Matuwid” governance of Aquino would lead him to victory on E-day.
Alas and alack!
Roxas could be travelling the wrong road that critics call “Tuwad na Daan.”
The more that Roxas talks about his “Straight Path,” the more that he gets vanishing numbers in the surveys.
But wait. How true is this rumor that Roxas has decided to back out of the race?

Mudslinging and black propaganda are traditional components of Philippine elections.
Candidates are not the only targets.
Their relatives, too, are par for the course in the shame campaign.
Scud missiles laced with vicious poison are now being fired by rivals and their propaganda machines at Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who is leading surveys for presidential preference.
The smear drive was expected to heighten during the campaign period for the 2016 elections.
Already veterans of political battles, the Duterte children, Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and former mayor lawyer Sara Duterte-Carpio, said they are ready for the expected barrage of black propaganda hurled at them as collateral targets.
Paolo and Sara are not angels and had controversial past experiences in private life and as government officials to feed wagging tongues and or used by the propaganda machineries of the political enemies of Duterte aiming to smear his image to stop his presidential bid.
This early, Duterte foes are now zeroing in on Sara, unearthing her mauling of a court sheriff when she was the sitting mayor and spreading misinformation about the incident in social media.
For the sake of fairness and to correct lies that black propagandists may spin from the incident, we are reposting our news coverage of THE SARA PUNCH.
