BONG GO:‘I have no plans of running for President’

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said he has no plans to run for President in the next elections as President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday cited his frequent visits to fire victims, teasing Go as having the intention to be his successor.

“Maybe he wants to be president kasi lahat ng sunog nandoon siya. Parang… Saan si Bong? Medyo halata man masyado. (because he’s present whenever there’s a fire. It’s like…Where is Bong? It’s a little obvious),” Duterte jokingly said in a speech in Malacañan Palace on Thursday.
“Eh wala pang sunog nandoon ka na eh. Ikaw ata tiga-sindi. Nauna ka pa doon sa bumbero. Well, huwag mo masyadong sobrahan baka mahalata (You’re there even before the fire has started. Maybe you’re the one who starts it. You’re there ahead of the firefighters. Well, don’t overdo it, it might get too obvious),” he added.
Go, the President’s former aide, later clarified that he had no intention to become the President’s successor.
“I have no plans of running for President. Hindi ko po inaambisyon iyan. Masaya na po ako na nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na magserbisyo sa kapwa kong Pilipino (I have never ambitioned that. I’m already happy that I am given the opportunity to serve fellow Filipinos),” Go said in a message to reporters.
The first-time senator said he was giving back to the community by extending assistance to those who needed it, including fire victims.
“Basta kaya lang ng oras at katawan ko, pupuntahan ko kayo para mapakinggan ang inyong hinaing at mabigyan ng pansin ang inyong mga pangangailangan (As long as time and my body allow it, I would visit you to listen to your sentiments and take notice of your needs),” Go said.
Go said he refused to talk about politics because he was prioritizing public service, but bared that he was open to helping whoever chose to be Duterte’s successor.
“Pero kung tatanungin ninyo ako tungkol sa (But if you’d ask me about) 2022 elections, I am willing to volunteer as campaign manager sa kung sinuman ang makakapagpatuloy ng pagbabago na inumpisahan ni Pangulong Duterte (of whoever would continue the change started by President Duterte),” he added.
In 2018, Go said he had no plans of running for senator after Duterte mentioned in jest that the Senate inquiry into PHP15.5 billion frigate acquisition could be Go’s ticket to a Senate seat.
Go has served as Duterte’s aide for over two decades before winning as senator in the 2019 midterm elections.
He remains to be the President’s constant companion in visits to disaster victims, injured soldiers and other engagements.
After winning as senator, he vowed to “continue” what the President has started. (PNA).

BATO BATS FOR SARA DUTERTE AS NEXT PRESIDENT

bato 2Another Duterte needed to continue drug war

By ROGER M. BALANZA

Although he did not name Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Senator Ronald dela Rosa believes the presidential daughter should be the next president who could continue the war against illegal drugs of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Before making it to the Senate in the 2016 election, Dela Rosa was chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). He was the architect of Duterte’s bloody campaign against illegal drugs that human rights groups said killed thousands of drug suspects.
Dela Rosa chairs the public order and dangerous drugs committee.
In a radio interview Dela Rosa said that the government is “running out of time” in the campaign against illegal drugs  and that “maybe we need another Duterte to continue the work.” Duterte fired off his campaign against illegal drugs as soon as he captured Malacanang in the 2016 polls. His term ends in 2022.
Dela Rosa pushing Mayor Sara to the presidency finds credence in a recent survey where she landed as among potential presidential candidates in the 2022 election..
The survey by PUBLICUS released in December said 35% of respondents picked Mayor Sara in a list of 21 potential candidates for president.
