SISON: Binay to get votes of ‘disqualified’ Duterte, Poe

“DESPITE ALLEGATIONS OF CORRUPTION, BINAY SUPPORT BASE IS INTACT”

The presidency could be a short leap away for Vice President Jejomar Binay if Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Grace Poe would be disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from running in the 2016 elections.

Their votes might go to Binay, said Jose Maria “Joma” Sison, founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), in a report in rappler.com.

Duterte and Poe are in danger of being scratched off in the 5-way presidential derby with Binay, standard bearer of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), Mar Roxas of the ruling Liberal Party and People’s Reform Party’s Senator Miriam Santiago.

Duterte, who carries the banner of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino/Laban (PDP/Laban, is facing a disqualification case before the Comelec.

In a worst-case situation is Poe who is on an independent dash to the presidency. Two divisions of the Comelec have ruled she is not qualified to run for president for lack of residency and citizenship requirement. She has gone to question the ruling at the Supreme Court which has issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the Comelec rulings.

Sison, interviewed by rappler.com in The Netherlands where he is on political asylum, said allegations of corruption leveled against Binay may have affected his numbers in surveys but his support base is intact.

The attacks on him about corruption worked but his big following is intact, said Sison at the headquarters of the National Democratic Front Philippines (NDFP) in Utrecht.

After suffering low ratings in surveys done as he was being probed by the Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee for allege corruption during his term as Makati City mayor, Binay has bounced back to take the lead in the latest surveys of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia.

Sison is the chief political consultant of the NDFP, the political arm of the CPP, that along with its armed wing the New People’s Army (NPA) have been fighting the government for nearly four decades.

Sison said the CPP, NDFP and the NPA will not endorse candidates in the coming elections. However, militant progressive organizations with leftist bent have joined the political mainstream. The Makabayan Bloc in the House of Representatives is composed of leftist party-list groups.

In the rappler.com interview, Sison also shared his observation of the other presidential candidates other than Binay.

SISON: ROXAS NO HEART OR COMPASSION FOR THE POOR

President Benigno Aquino and his ‘tuwad na daan’ program is presidential candidate Mar Roxas’ ‘kiss of death.’

This indictment was dished out by Jose Maria Sison, founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), as Roxas, the standard bearer of the ruling Liberal Party, continues to push Aquino’s ‘Tuwid na Daan’ IStraight Path) governance as an agenda he would continue if elected president in the 2016 election.

Jestingly calling Aquino’s slogan as ‘tuwad na daan’ (roughly translated as crooked path), Sison said Roxas’ presidential bid would crash if he continues to boast about Aquino’s slogan.

Sison gave his observation of Roxas and other presidential candidates – Vice President Jejomar Binay, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Grace Poe and Senator Miriam Santiago – in a recent interview with rappler.com at his base in Utrecht, Netherlands where he is on political asylum.

SISON: ROXAS IS ANTI-POOR

Sison said Roxas also has a problem with connecting with the poor.

Roxas, according to Sison, only mimics the poor but has no heart and compassion for them.
