ALVAREZ SATISFACTION RATING HITS BOTTOM

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez emerged the cellar dweller with his satisfaction rating down to a record-low of +1, in results of the latest survey by Social Weather Station (SWS).

Alvarez suffered a 13-point decline, his rating dropping from +14 in December 2017 to a “neutral” +1 in March 2018.

The face-to-face survey conducted March 23 to 27 involved interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide.

In Davao del Norte, the survey results was welcomed by the camp of 2nd District Congressman Antonio “Tonyboy” Floirendo, Jr.

It fits the character of the Speaker, said the Floirendo camp in a one-line statement sent out by text message to radio broadcasters.

Alvarez, who represents the province’s 1st District, has filed a graft rap against Floirendo and instigated a House probe into the Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) between the Floirendo-owned Tagum Agricultural Development Company (Tadeco) and the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) over the Davao Penal Colony (Dapecol) reservation area.

Tadeco developed the once-barren 5,300-hectare Dapecol land into a banana plantation that provides large income to government and thousands of jobs.

BINAY BACK ON TOP OF SURVEYS

As Senator Grace Poe agonized over her possible disqualification by Comelec and as Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Mar Roxas were locked in a ‘word war,’ Vice President Jejomar Binay stayed away from the fray, hobnobbed with the hoi polloi in a nationwide sortie without fanfare and went on to grab the lead in the pre-poll surveys for presidential preference.

Bouncing from a low finish in previous surveys conducted as he was being barrage with accusations of corruption, Binay, in the latest surveys, topped Pulse Asia and shared the lead with Poe in the SWS survey.

Duterte’s and Roxas’ ratings were probably affected by the war of words that also pushed up Binay’s figures.

Poe was silent on the latest results of the surveys that she previously topped. The results were released as the Comelec ruled on her disqualification case and kicked her out of the presidential derby in 2016.

Roxas downplayed the results saying his fate would be decided on election day.

The camp of Duterte, who is also facing a disqualification case,  credited Binay’s rise to Duterte’s statement that he would support Binay if he is disqualified by Comelec.
