SWS SLAMS FAKE SURVEY SHOWING ALVAREZ WINNING IN DAVNOR RACE

Social Weather Stations (SWS) has strongly condemned a fake pre-election survey showing candidates of the Partido Demokratiko Pilpiino/Lakas ng Bansa (PDP/Laban) winning in the mid-term elections in May in Davao del Norte.
The company has issued a Public Advisory on June 22, 2019, declaring the survey as unauthorized by SWS.
Mahar Mangahas, president and chief executive officer of SWS, said the survey is “fake and malicious” and advised the public to disregard the fakery.
Mangahas said SWS will file charges against groups or persons behind the survey. Printed copies of the survey, which carried the logo and company name of SWS, were widely distributed in the province.
The fake survey had First District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez winning by an unbelievably wide margin against Governor Anthony del Rosario, who is contesting the reelection of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives who was ousted in July this year amid charges of alleged corruption.
Gov. del Rosario and his team carry the banner of the Hugpong Ng Pagbabago (HNP), a regional political party organized by presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

ALVAREZ FAKE SURVEY

The team of Alvarez is running under the Alvarez Wing, a local bloc formed by Alvarez as an independent group outside of PDP/Laban. Reports have it that a group in PDP/Laban is moving for the ouster of Alvarez as secretary general of the party of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The fake survey also had Board Member Rodney del Rosario (HNP) losing against virtual unknown Edwin Jubahib (Alvarez Wing) in the race for Governor; and Second District Rep. Antonio Floirendo Jr. (HNP) losing against Vice Governor Alan Dujali (Alvarez Wing).
In the fake survey, the contest for other elective positions (vice governor, city mayor, vice mayor and city and municipal councilors) also showed Alvarez Wing bets winning by wide margins against HNP candidates.
Sources said operators identified as belonging to the Alvarez Wing are said to be behind the distribution of the fake survey.
The fake survey of the Alvarez Wing surfaced as Alvarez’s reelection bid faces doom with practically all political forces ranged against the ex-Speaker, with local independent surveys showing his looming debacle.
Not only is Alvarez and his team up against the formidable Floirendo-Del Rosario group, which has ruled DavNor for decades.
Alvarez is also ranged against Mayor Duterte-Carpio who has vowed to campaign against his reelection, after Alvarez called her HNP as an opposition party.

DUTERTE NETS RECORD-HIGH RATING IN SWS SURVEY

Malacañang on Friday said the ‘record high’ performance rating of President Rodrigo Duterte at the latest Social Weather Stations survey showed that a large majority of Filipinos supported the President’s actions following the rebellion in Marawi.

SWS“The survey result is a clear indication of the growing confidence in the Chief Executive and his performance as the country’s leader. The data collection concluded a month after PRRD placed the whole island of Mindanao under martial law shows tacit public support to the President’s action following the rebellion in Marawi,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said during the Mindanao Hour press briefing in Malacañang.
The Palace official said the show of public support further encourages the government in its efforts to clear Marawi City of remaining militants and hasten its rehabilitation to bring normalcy in the region.
“This positive acknowledgement of the Filipino people further motivates the administration to work for the restoration of normalcy in Marawi and to start its rehabilitation as well as bring a comfortable life for all Filipinos, including Muslim Filipinos,” Abella said.
In the latest SWS survey findings released Friday, President Duterte got a net satisfaction rating of +66, a new personal record high for Duterte after one year in office.
This is three points higher than the +63 net satisfaction rating that the President got in the first quarter of the year.
The opinion poll conducted June 23-26 showed that 78 percent of respondents were satisfied with the President’s performance compared to 12 percent dissatisfied and 10 percent undecided.
The survey was conducted one month after President Duterte placed the entire Mindanao under martial law and suspended the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus in the region after the Islamic-State-inspired Maute group, aided by foreign Islamist fighters and local extremists, laid siege to Marawi City in an attempt to establish an IS ‘wilayat’ or province in the capital of Lanao del Sur.
According to the SWS, the new record high rating was buoyed by increases in the Visayas and Luzon areas outside Metro Manila.
President Duterte’s net satisfaction rating rose by 11 points to an “excellent” +73 in the Visayas, from the “very good” +62 in March.
It stayed “very good” in “Balance Luzon”, rising seven points to +58 from +51.
Net rating in Mindanao stayed at “excellent” although it dropped 12 points to +75 from +87.
Meanwhile, the President’s net rating in Metro Manila stayed “very good” at +63 from +64 in March.
Across socioeconomic classes, net satisfaction rating remained “very good.”
Duterte’s net satisfaction rating was highest among class E respondents at +67, up seven points from the +60 last March.
Net satisfaction also rose to by three points among ABC respondents at +59 from +56, while net rating among class D respondents rose by two point at +66 from +64 in March. (PNA)

VICE PRESIDENCY A BREATH AWAY

Senator Bongbong Marcos is the leading choice of Filipino voters, according to a vice presidential preference poll completed within a week prior to the May 9 general elections. The last pre-election surveys were conducted by the two most reliable pollsters in the country, Social Weather Stations (SWS) and the Standard’s Laylo Report.

In the latest SWS poll done between May 1 to 3, Marcos regained the lead with 29% out of 4,500 survey respondents nationwide. He was followed by lone female candidate, Rep. Leni Robredo of Camarines Sur, who garnered 28%. Four other candidates are also running for the second highest post in the land, but their chances are virtually nil.

Marcos’ ranking jumped four points compared to his performance in the immediately preceding SWS polls taken on April 18 to 20. On the other hand, Robredo inched up two percentage points over the same period. Both candidates now have double-digit leads versus their other rivals.

Meanwhile, the Laylo Report published by national broadsheet The Standard revealed similar results.  Marcos garnered 30% of 3,000 likely voters who were polled between April 27 and May 1.  Close behind was Robredo at 29%, and a far third was Senator Chiz Escudero at 20%. The three other candidates had a combined 18%.

The Philippine Star columnist Babe Romualdez considers the Laylo Research Strategies (LRS) firm as the most credible polling organization in the country. It was founded by Pedro Laylo Jr. in 2001 after he retired from SWS. Laylo obtained his master’s degree in political science from the University of Connecticut’s Roper Center with a concentration in public opinion research.

Romualdez said billionaire businessman Enrique Razon Jr. “has been relying on the Laylo surveys even when he was still the owner of The Standard (then known as Manila Standard Today) to assess the political landscape and gauge voters’ choices.” According to Romualdez, the shipping tycoon regularly commissions LRS to  conduct surveys because its methodology is the most detailed and comprehensive with the biggest sample size representing all 18 regions of the Philippines.
